Pisgat Ze’ev

Your Neighborhood in Jerusalem

With over 50,000 residents, Pisgat Ze’ev is the largest neighborhood in Jerusalem.  It is situated in the northern part of the city, between French Hill and Ramat Eshkol to the south, and Neveh Yaakov to the north.

The Hebrew University campus on Mt. Scopus is located nearby, as is the Hadassah University Hospital on Mt. Scopus and the hi-tech industrial park at Har Hotzvim.  The five-star Hyatt Hotel is located in the nearby French Hill neighborhood.

Pisgat Ze’ev has a heterogeneous population, including people who are religiously-observant, secular and somewhere in between (traditional).  We also have a number of well-developed community services, including 15 elementary, junior high and high schools, a modern shopping mall, a Neighborhood Administration, and a Community Center for cultural and social activities.

The Neighborhood Administration is directed by a Voluntary Public Committee, most of whose members have been democratically elected.  The Community Centers offers all residents of Pisgat Ze’ev services and activities in the fields of community programs, education, enrichment courses, pre-schools, youth, the elderly, new immigrants, and people with special needs.  Courses are held in sports, music, dance, and arts & crafts.

The Neighborhood Administration also operates an immigrant absorption desk which provides for the immediate needs of some 9,000 new immigrants (about 3,500 families) in our neighborhood.  An estimated 500 of them are from English-speaking countries.  These services include:

l Ulpan (Hebrew language) classes at all levels

l Summer Hebrew Classes, for children of immigrant families to catch up on their

Hebrew during the summer vacation.  These are geared especially for children of

English- and French-speaking families who immigrated through Nefesh

B’Nefesh and the Ministry of Absorption

l A Coordinator for New Immigrants, whose sole task is to help newcomers with

        their first steps in Israel

l Learning Center for Immigrant Students (helping children with their homework)

l Cultural programs, such as field trips, holiday parties, and more
